A student’s psychological portfolio as a reflection of the effectiveness of the organization of educational work in college

Abstract

The article is devoted to an urgent psychological problem dictated by the social challenges of the current geopolitical situation and aimed at increasing the effectiveness of character educational of youth in Russia. The stresses the influence that character education in educational institutions has on self-determination and socialization of the personality of students. A student’s psychological portfolio is an important indicator reflecting the quality of character education in secondary vocational education schools. The portfolio makes it possible to trace the dynamics of personal development from admission to the educational institutions up to graduation from it. The proposes the definition of the ‘psychological portfolio’: a generalized psychological characteristic of a student, represented by self-concepts in the real, ideal and perspective dimensions. The article describes the role of a mentor-psychologist who ensures that students develop primary self-diagnosis skills and develop cognitive interest in psychological practices. The article describes the structural characteristics of the psychological portfolio that reflect the student’s interest in his or her own personality and place in the system of social relations. The notes the influence which working on the portfolio has on improving the student’s self-esteem, selfcontrol, self-presentation and self-realization. The role of reflection and forecasting in the student’s construction of the psychological portfolio is discussed. The article indicates the influence of the portfolio on determining the student’s personal and professional prospects, development of self-control, and correction of his or her own behavior. It has been established that the psychological portfolio develops students’ interest in psychological practices, methods of self-diagnosis, and self-development planning. The carried out a comparative analysis of literary sources and basic documents regulating modern requirements for character education and psychologists’ work in secondary vocational schools. This made it possible to describe the experience of using the psychological portfolio in character education at the Perspektiva Private Socio-Economic Vocational School (the city of Mineralnye Vody). It was found that the psychological portfolio has the determining role, influencing the system of value orientations of students and increasing their self-esteem. The logic of the article is based on the methodology of the systemic-structural approach, which helps to describe the structural characteristics of the psychological portfolio. The notes the important role of psychological support in character education of vocational school students. The research material can be recommended for use in the system of character education with students of general education schools, secondary vocational schools and universities to provide psychological support to the individual throughout the entire period of study at an educational institution.
