The value of family in cohorts of primary school children born in 2006–14

The domestic policy of modern Russia prioritizes family values, and Russia’s education system specifically stresses the moral and values education of the younger generation. The study of the values dimension makes it possible to model macro- (culture, public opinion and social institutions — including the family) and micro-psychological (individual, age-related, etc.) conditions for the development of students’ personality. We used the time lag method — which is a modification of the longitudinal method and the cohort method — to analyze the values system of primary school children aged 10 years (born in 2006–14) over a nine-year period. The sample included 763 5 th -grade students of General Education School No. 36 of Samara: 366 girls and 397 boys (M = 10.5, Sd = 0.51). We used the Axiological Orientation of Personality Test (ANL 4.4), descriptive statistics and structural parametric nine years, the value of family was actively developing (normative values of the ANL scale) in the entire sample in the following range: 29.07% in 2017 and 45.33% in 2018. The value was highly developed in the following range: 25.32% in 2023 and 48.84% in 2017. The crisis of the value of family in girls was identified in 2021, 2022 and 2023, and in boys, in 2018, 2021 and 2023. In each crosssection, we identified correlations of the value of family with other values. In boys, the value of family showed a direct correlation with: the value of creativity in 2016, 2021 and 2024; the value of achievement in 2016, 2017, 2022 and 2024 (with a downward trend in the correlation coefficients τ in the post-pandemic period); the value of individuality in 2017; and the value of the group in 2023. In girls, the value of family correlated with: the value of the group in 2016; the value of individuality in 2021 and 2024; the value of achievement in 2017 and 2021–23 (with a downward trend in the correlation coefficients τ throughout the entire study); and material values that emerged in the post-pandemic period, were decreasing from 2021 to 2023 and were replaced with the correlation with the value of creativity in 2024. The analysis of variance allowed us to identify factors influencing the development of the value of family in boys and girls of the cohorts born in 2006–14, which will make it possible to adjust the psychological support of the educational process.Downloads
