Abstract

This paper explores longitudinal technologies of meaning transformation in conflict-generating polycode texts. Longitudinal technologies are a key component of effects-based combat operations — cognitive technologies designed to influence and transform social behaviors of individuals and societies. These technologies involve the repeated, timed application of ‘indirect actions’ to shape behavior by altering an individual’s cognitive domain, often leading to the development of destructive behaviors. One of the most concerning aspects of these technologies is their invisible impact on consciousness. Given this, there is a critical need to examine the specific mechanisms and effects of longitudinal technologies, and to identify their verbal and non-verbal components within polycode texts and multimedia content. The primary analysis identifies several key patterns (indicators) of meaning transformation: 1) a cognitive model of meaning transformation — a set of methods and techniques that transform the original meaning of a text or its components by introducing verbal or non-verbal components that network patterns of semantic text structure — the relationships between semantic components, e.g. Subject, Characteristic, Action, Object, Phenomenon, interconnected by various logical and semantic relations; 3) communicative strategies and tactics — the construction of a common psychological framework in the ’s speech behavior aimed at exalting or justifying the political (ideological) ideas, value systems and behavioral imperatives of the ‘own’ domain, while discrediting or mocking those of the ‘alien’ domain; 4) attractive topics — issues that provoke conflict through the polarization of opinions, especially within youth culture and society at large.
